FER webinar with Millers Oils offers insight into oil analysis

The Federation of Engine Remanufacturers (FER), the corporate body representing the UK engine re-manufacturing industry, recently hosted a virtual technical training seminar with Millers Oils to provide a brief introduction to oil analysis for technicians, engine reconditioners and students.

As the government cracks down on emissions and accelerates its green agenda, which is designed to cut carbon emissions by 78 percent by 2035, oil analysis is becoming more important than ever.

Attendees left the seminar with knowledge about the analysis methods carried out by Millers Oils that can help to better assess the condition of an engine, how the analysis can benefit engine performance and what information is given with an oil analysis.

The hosts also talked through the different oil specifications and the differences between manufacturers versus industry body requirements.

Millers Oils ended the seminar with a Q&A session, offering attendees a chance to ask any questions and gain an even greater insight into oil analysis.

Oil analysis is the process of testing contamination levels and the chemical make-up of oils (also fuels and other fluids), in laboratory conditions, in order to identify their properties and any contamination or wear debris that have been introduced from the engine.

Comparing the results of oil analysis samples over the life span of the engine allows negative trends to be identified and corrected, helping to eliminate costly repairs and prolong engine longevity, offering peace of mind. It can also help to plan service schedules, maintain productivity and reduce waste products.
